Superintendent

Sterling High School Families:

On behalf of the Sterling High School Board of Education and staff I want to welcome you back to another exciting school year!  It is a great pleasure to welcome both our returning families and the ones who are new to Sterling, namely the Class of 2024.

While the school year essentially ended in June, our Administrative Team, teachers, and staff have not experienced a summer break as planning unfolds with the new regulations for the 2020-21 school year.  Our primary goal in the re-opening and return to school is the safety and well-being of our students and staff.  Committees have been meeting and are utilizing our resources in creating a detailed plan to reopen school to either in-person instruction or remote learning.  Resources that contributed to our planning include guidance from Governor Murphy’s office, the CDC, the NJ Commissioner of Education, the Camden County Superintendent’s Office, and the Camden County Department of Health.

As you can imagine, there is much detail, reflection, consideration, and unanticipated expense as health and safety aspects provides the focus for continued learning and growth of all students.  Flexibility will be an important aspect of our plan as new policies and health updates are provided by government agencies.  New information and guidance will require changes to our plans.  Sterling High School will do it’s very best to communicate any and all changes to our stakeholders.  We encourage you to visit our website at www.sterling.k12.nj.us and review the Fall 2020 Return to School Information.  School officials are determining our school’s readiness regarding technology and upgrades to the school’s infrastructure as well as the need for additional supplies and materials to insure student everyone’s safety.  The goal is to deliver instruction that meets the needs of students whether in the traditional classroom setting or in a remote learning setting either by parent/guardian option or Governor’s decision.

It is an exciting and challenging time to be at Sterling High School, and it is my great honor to serve as your superintendent.  Sterling is family; there is no better place in which to learn and work.  Thank you for your continued support as we strive to do our very best to meet the needs of our students.  They deserve it, and we cannot do this important work without you.  We look forward to seeing you and your students very soon.

Sincerely,

Matthew Sheehan
